Will. Willingness. Willpower

"Do what you wish to if you can. Do what you can, if you wish to. "

How do you make a choice? What governs all your decisions? Between the choice of getting anywhere or even staying where you are, three things become your aid :

Your Will, Willingness and Willpower. Are they the same? Let’s understand them.

Consider asking yourself :
"Do I really want to do this?"
"Am I open and capable to do what it takes to get where I want to? Can I persist?
"What makes me choose this?"

The answer to the first question indicates your willingness for a decision. That is if you really want to undertake action and gauge the miles ahead of you.

For taking any decision, it is necessary for one to want to make it. That would tell if your willingness is in alignment. Let’s say you are going to buy a car after an increment in your salary. Ask yourself the first of the three questions mentioned above. (Do I really want to buy this car?)

At times, however, simply wanting to undertake an action does not suffice. If you want to become a hair-dresser you must be prepared and open to go all the way through, hone your skills, and really take in your stride all that comes with the job. This can be done by persisting and operating on perseverance.

This is your willpower- your innate ability to persist through your choices.

When you do not have the willpower to persist in your choices, you may find yourself hopping from one choice to another, which doesn't get you anywhere nor does it help in staying where you are.

Similarly, if you want to go to the beach, you have to take a cab to travel or walk yourself to the beach. Nobody else can do that for you. Then, even if you decided to stay ashore, then standing on the banks of the sea would require you to hold your ground, as you allow the waves to caress you.

Your willpower is thus, simply, your own ability to hold your ground and persist in the choices that you make.

Back to the previous example, if you want to buy a car, then ask yourself the second of the above three questions ( am I open and capable of doing all that it takes for me to own a car, including investment, regular maintenance, documentation, etc.?)

However, what (not who) decides whether to go to the beach or not? Whether to swim or stay ashore or not? It is your Free will.

The very essence of our human existence is our free will. Every single decision that we make in life is out of that free will.

Therefore, choosing to stand on the shore, when you can also swim or not go to the beach at all, is your free will. Buying or not buying a car, is your free will.

Whether to go anywhere or stay where you are is decided by your free will. Even a no-choice is a choice that you are making with your free will.

Therefore, in order to do anything in life, you must with your free will choose to do so and with your willingness and willpower see to its accomplishment.
